Physical EducationChildren at Skinner North currently receive 150 minutes of physical education per week. PE may occur in our full-size gymnasium, our fitness room, or outside, weather-permitting. Younger children receive PE daily while older children may have longer blocks of physical education. Middle school students may choose from two PE electives each semester.

Health
Skinner North follows the CPS Health curriculum at all grade levels. Health education is integrated into both PE classes and regular classes.
Recess
All students will partake in a 20-25 minute daily recess time, monitored by trained staff. If the weather does not permit for outdoor recess (i.e. below freezing, raining or other hazardous conditions), then recess will take place in the classroom. In general, recess is held outdoors when the temperature is between 32F and 90F, and may be held outdoors if conditions permit between 15F-32F and 90F-94F. Find out more about CPS Recess Weather Policies and other recess policies here. In addition, students have movement breaks between subjects or classes.
Sports
Skinner North offers numerous athletic teams for 5-8 graders. These include Track and Field, Soccer, Cross Country, Basketball, and Flag Football. Additional sports and recreation opportunities are available through our after school enrichment program with J at School, as well as through Stanton Park next door.
